Surrender Your Mind to The Internet - Why Not Google!
Google has made deals with several news groups to collect their stories and post them on Google's site rather than re-directing users to the actual news sources. This is a major move that will no doubt kill weak newspapers who have lost ground to the Internet and laid off people to compete on price.
Does Google have a larger agenda; to own the World? The Economist in the September 2007 issues seems to think so and you know they say he who controls the news, controls the minds of the people. Well then, since Google is getting into the News now, and since their volume of users is so high, how much of your mind will they control in the future?
Google has made deals with several news groups to collect their stories and post them on Google's site rather than re-directing users to the actual news sources. This is a major move that will no doubt kill weak newspapers who have lost ground to the Internet and laid off people to compete on price. For instance, newspapers like the LA Times lately have been very underwhelming in nature and you can easily breeze thru the daily paper in 20-30 minutes and still learn nothing of any real significant.
Has this fact opened a door of opportunity for Google to run thru? The Online Think Tank predicted this earlier in the year and now it hath occurred. Google has made a deal with the news wires to cut duplicate links and post the article on Google itself. This will provide a huge benefit to the newswires, while tipping the apple cart on many newspapers, who had attempted to use their web based online email alerts to drive traffic to advertisers.
How does Google win? Increased traffic, your source for news and advertisers who are switching over to web venues and for consumers of information and news, well you get it all and longer shelf-life too, with a searchable feature. Sounds like the dawn of a new age for Google and a disaster for the already weakened print news. Think on this.
